Much Improved!

I had read the reviews on the previous edition of this publication. I am so glad that I waited to receive this newest edition. The photos are very clear, detailing even the differences between mixers (tilt head models are shown in blue and bowl lift models are shown in red). There is a new section in the center of the book displaying several of the dishes and creations as they should look (and they look delicious). The recipes are wonderful! I really love that they include the attachment needed at the top of each recipe and the speeds at which to use them during every stage of the recipe. This book is going to change how I use my KitchenAid.

Not for pros

Photos are outstanding. I got a KictenAid Artisan and knew I was in trouble. How do you adapt tried and try recipes to relying on a machine? This book is it. Photos are all about how to best use the umpteen attachments for the mixer. I want the ice cream maker! I want the meat grinder! It looks so easy. Back to reality. I’m 67, like to cook. Spouse also cooks. 50-50. OK, we have something in common. The book: if you have made bread for a long time then have a real mixer, the problem of adapting your hand methods of really working dough with suddenly having a machine that can do the same work faster takes a leap of faith. My pizza, Dim Sum, cinnamon rolls and bread are easier thanks to this book.

great cookbook.

OK all of the recipes in this book do NOT use a mixer. However the recipes that do have a shaded bara t the top indicating what attachment it uses. Whisk, hook, juicer etc. But this book is better the the "kitchen aid brand books" because those books talk about all their product and focus on their food processor. This one focuses on cooking and also the mixer. The section on all the other attachment you csn get is awesome. Shws both the tilt head and raised bwl style of kitchen aid mixer and how to attach them.

But many of the recipes themselves are ones I have searched for years for.
They have everything from soup to bread to different ethnic dishes I only remember having my grand mom making. It has a little of everything Italian, German, polish, american, etc etc they even have a recipie for gnocchi.
The hints they give with some of the recipies are priceless. Like boiling potatoes with skin on then peeling if making gnocchi...keeps potatoes from absorbing water so the. End product doesn't fall apart when you pot it in water later. Now I know what I did wrong the 3 times I tried to copy my family recipe.

Chatty and fun, but not to be used as the basis for anything but a reading course

There are all kinds of physics books. There are books for didactics; nobody actually uses, say, Jackson's book on Classical Electrodynamics for anything but didactics. You can tell the books that are useful for teaching in a classroom by the presence of extensive problem sets. This book has none. So, with this, let me dispose of the notion that you should be able to teach a 'quantum chaos' course based on this book. There are also books which explain in great technical detail all about a given small subject area; Fritz Haake's book on 'Quantum Signatures of Chaos' is a good example of this (though it's really about Random Matrix theory, which is but one quantum signature of chaos; a whole book on just one small area of this subject -covered in a few pages in Gutzwiller's book). Then there are books which are reviews of a subject. Gutzwiller wrote a book which is a review of a subject. It's a very good one.

One could actually go through this, read it, know about the existence of many things, and read up on them as is appropriate for one's research. That is how I used the book. Gutzwiller writes very well, and communicates his enthusiasm for the subject matter. The bibliography is extensive, and you could indeed learn all about anything you needed to by going through the bibliographic references for the details. An actual review which takes you from knowing about Hamilton Jacobi theory and the WKB approximation and covering all the material he presented in every detail needed to understand the whole mess .... I doubt as any such book exists. It would be an encyclopedia. If you simply want to understand the Gutzwiller trace formula starting at that level, there are books which do it reasonably well (Cvitanovic's is a great effort in that direction). This is not such a book; this is a review. A review of a very important body of work. That is this book's purpose, and it serves it admirably well.

As for why Gutzwiller is important; if you think the correspondence principle is interesting, the Gutzwiller trace formula is the main useful way we know of thinking about it in detail. Most physicists think about the area where quantum mechanics becomes classical as a sort of intellectual blur. This is a mistake. This is arguably a much more interesting place to think about than, say, what happened in the first 10^-35 seconds of the big bang. For example, one can actually do experiments in the semiclassical regime. Experiments which only involve optics. There's gold in them there hills, and nobody is looking there. Mesoscopic physics as applied to device physics may eventually force people to think about these issues in detail, but I somehow doubt the device guys are going to reinvent quantum mechanics. Gutzwiller thought about these issues in the 1960s while working on practical problems for IBM. These are the fundamental mysteries, folks: if you're an ambitious young physicist who wants to make a real contribution to science; leave the noodle theory alone, and look into this stuff. Following the herd will get you a nice career, but immortality belongs to the one who plays Einstein or Poincare to Gutzwiller's Minkowski.

Gutzwiller's Chaos in Classical and Quantum Mechanics

The first thing a non-specialist should do is to hire a reputable consultant or tutor to translate this book into approximately ordinary English, but it would be a bad mistake to miss this book because it is full of remarkable ideas that apply to almost every field. To show you how translation would work, it turns out that doughtnuts (torus, plural tori in math) are key to classical and quantum chaos. You might ask: why doughtnuts, instead of, say, balls (beachballs, tennis balls, microscopic balls, etc.)? Well, let's consider a person's head as a ball. You can comb a person's hair flat on his head, but not without a part or irregularity (eddy) somewhere - see page 33 of the book, which says this is slightly different words. On a doughnut, however, you can comb hair flat without any irregularities. The hair with the directions in which they point are called vectors in mathematics, and all together they form a vector field. Chaos occurs when these doughtnuts get disturbed, say by raising the energy (perturbations). Gutzwiller of IBM New York pioneered the study of the relationship between classical and quantum chaos, but anybody who has read IBM books or manuals know that they usually require heavy translation. If you absolutely can't find a math or physics consultant or tutor, go through Gutzwiller's book page by page until you find something like this which you can understand, and keep reading the comprehensible paragraphs.

The Father of the Quasiclassical Approach to Quantum Chaos

Today the Gutzwiller trace formula is the standard quasiclassical approach to studies of the spectrum in quantum chaos research.
The most striking property of classics chaos is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions such that neighboring trajectories in phase space separate at an exponential rate. As result the long time behavior of the system is unpredictable. Instead of looking for exponential sensitivity, the main stream of quantum chaos research is currently concentrated on identifying the fingerprints of classical chaos in quantum systems. If one were to identify unique fingerprints of classical chaos in quantum mechanics, one could use these to define quantum chaos.
The starting point for the Gutzwiller quasiclassical analysis is the path integral formulation of the propagator. From this quantum expression one can deduce a formula that contains a sum over all classical periodic orbits. This is the main contribution of Gutzwiller.

3.5 stars--TEASING THE BOSS is the second installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary adult Billionaires in the City romance series of novellas. This is business consultant Simon West (first introduced to the reader in book one-Teaching the Boss), and event organizer Grace Bell. TEASING THE BOSS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives TEASING THE BOSS follows Grace as she attempts to clear her name in a scandal involving a married US senator. Caught by the paparazzi in the arms of said US senator hit Grace in more ways than one-her business as an events coordinator starting dropping off as she became persona non-grata in the social circles, and the reputation as the woman who broke up a senator’s marriage. What no one knew was that Grace has been set up as the fall girl for another one of the senator’s wrong doings. Enter Simon West-a business consultant whose clients required a no nonsense approach to getting the job done.

When Simon discovers that Grace knows the man that Simon has been trying to take down, he offers Grace a deal she cannot refuse. Simon’s best friend committed suicide following an investment scandal that went horribly wrong, and Simon has spent months researching and investigating investment banker Mark DuFord and his connections to a billion dollar financial scheme. Simon and Grace will pretend to be lovers, with no strings attached, but the plan hopelessly fails when Grace begins to fall for the man in charge.

The relationship between Grace and Simon begins as a business arrangement: Grace needs help repairing the damage brought about by the lies and tabloid innuendo, and Simon needs Grace to help him retrieve inside information about Mark Duford. What begins as a tentative friendship soon becomes something more but Simon knows that his relationship with Grace is only a temporary job, and in this Simon will begin to push Grace away when Mark shifts gears and aims his financial and political clout against Simon and Grace. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and hot without the over the top erotic feature but the sexual attraction between our couple felt off-everything seemed to be part of a business arrangement. I didn’t feel the need; the want; or the desire. Once again, there is little to no graphic or sexually explicit language.

I want to add that I had a few issues with the lack of condom usage throughout the series, thus far. It is not enough for the female heroine to be on the BC pill, as our hero’s like to believe, because as we know, the only thing the BC pill prevents is a pregnancy –and even that isn’t 100% effective. In this day and age, I think the authors should be proactive with their storyline characters as it pertains to safe sex and the potential for sexually transmitted disease.

The secondary characters include several of Grace’s clients, her co-workers and assistants, as well as a few new friends we will meet along the way. We will be introduced to Grace’s all-around go to guy Dean Carey, and billionaire businesswoman, and a friend of Simon’s, Victoria Green whose life will begin to fall apart as her father lies dying, and her ‘brat’ of a brother tries to regain control of the family business she saved from ruin. Dean and Victoria’s story will be told next in TEMPTING THE BOSS.

Mallory Crowe’s world of self made billionaires looks at the not so pretty side of big business and the corporate world of high finance and power. Money makes for some strange bedfellows; greed forces men to choose; and betrayal is but a phone call away. The characters are colorful; the premise fast paced and revealing. A enjoyable read for a lazy afternoon.

Teasing the Boss is a Great Read That I Highly Recommend. Loved it!!!

This book was a real pleaser and even a bit better than book one, in my opinion. I highly recommend you read this but my advice would be to start with book one. You'll get back story.

I was not so sure I was going to be a fan of Simon's after the first book but boy was I wrong. I fell almost as much in love with him as Grace did. Simon, who can turn around any struggling business, appears arrogant and entirely too sure of himself...but in a way he has a may have a right to be with his track record in resurrecting businesses that are about to go under for whatever reason. When he is tracked down by Grace he has met his match. Grace is a strong, beautiful, confident, and endearing entrepreneur who started her own very successful company which specialized in planning galas. Unfortunately, she was set up to appear as though she was having an affair with a prominent politician which sent her biz plummeting. Enter...Simon to the rescue.

Did I mention that Simon is a red-headed, hot, chiseled, god? Well, he most definitely is. A great read with interesting, well-developed characters. Do Not Miss This!!

Better than the first

This is the second book of the Billionaires in the City book. This book sort of continues from the first as Simon was hired by the first books Hero as a consultant, but I am sure it can be read as a standalone since it really has no bearing on this book and the salient characters/plot of the first book is only vaguely alluded to once.

I really like Grace. She was strong headed and driven and unwilling to give up no matter what happened in both her work and her private life. Simon was a very interesting character. While I assume he is the billionaire in the "Billionaires in the city" he never acted like one. He is driven to take down Mark DuFord at any price and when Grace comes along she just may offer the perfect opportunity. Simon eventually realizes that "any price" may be too much when Grace is involved.

I actually liked this book more than the first. I am not sure who the 'boss' was that was being teased as Simon is a consultant so neither one is really the others boss. But I really liked both Grace and Simon. They both have a lot of heart and drive. Grace is clearly well loved by those around her and she puts her heart into her work. She is an event planner whose greatest joy is seeing her attendees truly have a good time. Simon while seemingly all business is driven by a personal tragedy, which just shows that in the end, he is really all heart too.

As an aside I did the subscribe to get a free story thing that is highlighted in the book details, but I never received anything so I guess its "limited time" is over.

Great book

This dissertation covers some very nuanced issues regarding Kant's theoretical philosophy, primarily the issue of realities, which Warren interprets to be causal powers. Very clear exposition, I think for anyone pursuing a more detailed understanding of Kantian metaphysics, this book is a must study.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE I'VE EVER READ!

Martin Meadows has delivered a solid book on the topic of self-confidence. The core of the content focuses on self-efficacy which, as the author explains in detail with clear examples, is at the heart of a persons ability to function.

This is especially true for people with low efficacy because they don't believe that they can do it. They spend their whole lives struggling with trying to build up confidence in so many ways but, as Martin points out, efficacy is the lesser-known reason many people miss. Having read a lot of books on how to build self-confidence, this is the first one I have read that focused primarily on the core concept that self-efficacy is the main problem.

While many other factors may contribute to a person with low confidence, Martin offers lots of suggestions and well-researched articles that prove to readers if they boost their self-efficacy, they can elevate confidence to a level that makes anything possible

• Chapter 1 reveals what efficacy is and how people with a strong sense of efficacy can master certain skills. But people with weak efficacy struggle master anything and avoid challenges.
• Chapter 2 is about mastering the fear of failure. By desensitizing yourself to failure through rejection, you can strengthen your efficacy by overcoming obstacles and producing just small wins at first.
• Chapter 3 is about social meddling and how you can strengthen yourself further by watching others succeed. This can happen through having a mentor or accountability partner/mastermind group. You have a better chance of succeeding by hanging around with people who are on the same level as you and act as a support team.
• Chapter 4 is about social persuasion and psychological responses. This chapter is very important because it focuses on, nit just the power of positive influence but also the power persuasion of negative influences. By focusing on positive small talk you can experience some big wins to push you over the hurdle.
• Chapter 5 is about the 5 rules you can develop for a strong sense of self-efficacy. This was my favorite chapter by far. By setting goals slightly above your ability you can stretch your comfort zone a little more every time. Also a great section here on reframing your thoughts so that you can stop making excuses as to why you can’t do something. The part on locus of control and how we are in control of the events that affect our lives is a powerful truth.

In a nutshell, this little book is worth its weight in wisdom and provides a deeper insight on going more confidence, not by providing cheap tips such as “believe in yourself” but really takes the reader deeper in so that they can explore the weaker parts of themselves. From there, the healing towards gaining greater confidence and clarity in our daily lives becomes a strong anchor.

A highly recommended read that you won’t regret investing the time and money in.

You Can Change Your Limiting Belief's

Martin Meadows has done it again with his new book Confidence. Confidence tackles the very important subject of self-efficacy and self-esteem. How we view ourselves has a direct correlation to how we view the world and the people in it.

Just like all of Martin’s previous books, he has researched the topic well and provides summary’s at the end of each chapter to help lock in the information learned in the chapter.

Here are some highlights from the book that I found helpful:

- People with low self-efficacy have trouble executing on their dreams because they don’t believe they can achieve them deep down.
- Self-efficacy develops during childhood and can help shape your future more than you realize.
- Social modeling can have a huge impact on our confidence and self-efficacy levels.
- Mastering self-efficacy means mastering the small wins!
- Learning from failure is vital to increasing your self-efficacy levels.
- Discouragement has a greater effect on us than positive encouragement.
- Mentorship works - find someone who can help you grow and achieve the results and goals you want.

I found this book to be enlightening and a great reminder that we need to work at self-effacacy every day to help us meet our goals for now and the future.

Self-Efficacy is the name of the game.

"Confidence: How to Overcome Your Limiting Beliefs and Achieve Your Goals" is Martin's third book in the Self-Help series. He has taken another important concept on the topic of self-success and fleshed it out perfectly.

This book introduces us to the concept of Self-Efficacy and why it's important. It teaches us how this seemingly simple concept is both the key to our success and the reason why we often fail before we even begin.

The book touches on the many aspects of self-efficacy - what it is, what influences it, why it's important and what can we do about it.

As is becoming the norm, the book is well written with no noticeable typos, grammar or formatting issues.

While a shorter read than Martin's other books, the message contain inside is no less valuable. Often the most important messages are contained in only a few paragraphs.

This book is a great addition to the authors other works. There is no way a person can remain unmotivated and unsuccessful after reading these books and making use of the tips and instructions contained within. A very worthy read!
