Great Resource for Hopeful Hackers

This is a quick read that is packed with helpful resources for people who want to break into the tech scene or just want to learn programming as a side project. In my opinion, the three most valuable components of the book were:

1. HER STORY - The first part of the book details her path from a non-techie in San Francisco to eventually a professional programmer. The fact that she wasn't a CS major and she still got a programming job helps build her credibility as this book is focused more towards people without any prior coding experience.

2. ONLINE RESOURCES - Natasha does a great job of collecting all of the different online resources that students can use to learn. This list includes everything from books, blogs, full length college courses, and tutorials. There are both free and paid resources.

3. CODE SCHOOLS - Over the last two years or so, code schools (vocational schools for programming) have become increasingly popular. Just like she did with the online courses, she lists and analyzes the benefits of the different code schools. While she only has personal experience with a couple (Dev Bootcamp and Mobile Makers Academy) she does a thorough job of reviewing a wide variety of them. Also she highly recommends trying to learn programming before you apply to any sort of code school.

If you're just starting to learn to code, this is a great book to help you get in the right mindset and point you in the right direction.

Training Wheels for New Coders

Natasha Murashev does everyone trying to learn coding skills a service with this helpful and practical guide of her experiences going through the learning process.

She quickly touches upon learning styles and how knowing our unique style will serve us well when we begin our learning process. This could be the most important part of the book.

And it would be if she also didn't include an exhaustive list of resources for those learning to code.

This was a quick read by an author clearly passionate about what they do. I highly recommend it!

As a newbie looking to shift careers to growth hacker / content strategist, I needed to know what I was getting into before considering a career in software engineering. This book provided a lot of resources and a how-to journey. Whether "hacker school" or "bootcamps" are for me, at least I'll have a foundation and a much stronger understanding than before. I later appreciated the section on learning styles, because I follow the belief that "you are your own expert," and if you don't know how you learn best, then you'll waste a lot of time and information retention.

Please Note: This is a self published book. No Publishing Company is the named on the Title page. I give credit to the author for having some creative ideas on using actual hinges and other ways to link bracelet tiles together, but some of the clay workmanship felt a little beginner and/or intermediate. Artist has done a nice job with the project's steps and photographs are good quality.

Simply Outstanding!

Many people are probably wondering things like: "Can I do this?" and "Does it really work?"

Using this book, the answers to both questions are: "YES!"

I'm a professional hypnotherapist. It's what I do for a living. Even so, I read through the chapters that teach a complete newbie how hypnosis works and how to prepare to use it to enhance intimacy. They are well-written, thorough enough for bedroom use, easy to read, and easy to understand.

The chapters specifically about erotic hypnosis are also great. They explain things well and the creativity Mr. Wiseman shows in some of the erotic applications is inspiring!

My only lament is that this book didn't exist back when I was in college (we're NOT going to talk about how many decades ago that was) so that I could have read it and known what I was doing right from the start, without having to learn through trial-and-error.

In short: Buy this book. Read this book. Use what you learn from this book. Start out slowly, and build on your successes. Then enjoy the enormous rewards of being one of the few people who actually know how to use the mind to maximize the intensity, pleasure, and sheer fun of erotic encounters!

This is the book you're looking for

A gentle but solid introduction to hypnosis, erotic uses for hypnosis, kinky uses for hypnosis, and current on-line hypno kink communities; Wiseman manages to point the way to a broad range of different interesting things you can do with hypnosis in the bedroom. If the idea of hypnosis turns you on... you should read lots of books about it (and Mind Play's bibliography would be a good place to start). But if you only read one book about erotic hypnosis, it should be this one.

I searched through a lot of books trying to find what I need but this book was the ticket It came rehighly recommended to me by several experienced practicing hypnotherapists. It's short, concise, easy to read, with plenty of examples and exercises. If this is a subject that interests you, then this is the one book you need and should get.

Very good book, entertaining and educative.

The story of these researchers in the Kalahari is amazing and true! Incredible, the things they endure, all for their love of the animals, and their research into them is very valuable. Interestingly written; even though this is essentially a scientific work, it is not dry, but a wonderful story of how Man interacts with the Wild Side. I loved the hornbills in Camp, and, when I was just in Botswana, experienced for myself their mischievousness and wit.
I learned a lot from this book, which I was constantly telling people about!

A good way to experience the Kalahari - or enhance a personal experience.

Bought it to read while on photo safari in South Africa and Botswana, but I was too exhausted each evening after two game drives per day. Reading it afterwards, I have a much greater appreciation and understanding of the Owens' experiences, joys, and frustrations. It's not a literary masterpiece, but I think it gives a great picture of both animal and human life in the Kalahari - and a reflection of all life on earth. With my personal experience and reading Mark's and Delia's experience, I don't think I can ever enjoy a zoo the same way I once did.

Bad Copy Editing

I'm really enjoying this book but the scanning came up with errors that nobody fixed. "Mark" becomes "Marie" and there are "scent maries"; they told "yarn after yam", "AH" instead of "all" and so forth. This slows down my enjoyment of the book.

What I was looking for...sort of.

I am a pretty typical procrastinator coupled with a possible fear of success or failure or something...havent figured it all out yet, but this book was helpful. I liked it, its a keeper and I will definitely pick it up from time to time. It was easy to read, got to the point and was somewhat throught provoking. It gave clear examples of what 'lesson' was trying to be taught.
I do wish there was just a tiny bit more insight on some of it. Seems almost 'shallow' (which is coming out harsher than meant to be) becuase some of the issues discussed in the book hit right on the money, however it did not always have a lot of in depth detail on HOW to overcome certain things. I read certain parts and thought ' ok, that's me. how do I overcome it' reading on, I suppose I was looking for some specific directions, which isnt exactly realistic. I needed to figure that out on my own. Eventually the book's pages lead me to analyze more of my behavior and figure out how to get around doing some of the annoying things I do. I'm still a work in progress, but the book DID help and it DID open my eyes to some behaviors, how to avoid them and a different outlook.

I'm not a book reader but this is a great book. I had a bad friendship and I needed to understand why it was going so wrong after 10 yrs. i was able to understand more about myself and others. What to look for and not in a friend.

How to avoid or overcome self-defeating behavior

As I began to read this book, I recalled the core concepts in The Knowing-Doing Gap co-authored by Jeffrey Pfeffer and Robert Sutton. Briefly, they assert that "so many managers know so much about organizational performance, say so many smart things about how to achieve performance, and work so hard, yet are trapped in firms that do so many things they know will undermine performance." Many (most?) people have a "gap" between knowing what to do and doing it, not only at work but in all other areas of their lives. How to close this gap? Mark Goulston and Philip Goldberg believe that a self-defeating attitude results in self-defeating behavior...and I agree.

Goulston and Goldberg identify 40 different examples of self-defeating behavior and briefly discuss each, also including relevant quotations and a "Usable Insight" for each. I immediately identified with several (as will other readers) and, after reading "10 Things You Can Learn from Each" and then the Introduction: "How to Beat Self-Defeat," zeroed in on caught my eye. Here are five:

#6 Behavior: Getting So Angry When you Make Things Worse
Comment: I have far more patience with others' mistakes than I have with my own and really become upset when others are somehow victimized by what I have said or done, albeit unintentionally.
Usable Insight: "Anger makes you wild, but conviction makes you strong." Perhaps.

#16 Behavior: Trying to Change Others
Comment: Psychologists call this the "Rescue Fantasy." It can also be an indication of arrogance. Whatever the explanation, I hate to give up on anyone and become very upset with those who give up on themselves.
Usable Insight: "Don't try to change people; accept them as they are and hope they'll change." Easier said than done, especially with loved ones.

#18 Behavior: Talking When Nobody's Listening
Comment: I wish I had a $10 bill for every time I totally lost the attention of someone in a conversation without realizing it and and continued to babble on.
Usable Insight: "When people stop listening, stop talking."

#25 Behavior: Refusing to "Play Games"
Comment: Although I realize that playing several "games is inevitable (e.g. pretending to enjoy encountering someone in a social situation that you dislike intensely), and that each has its own "rules," I much prefer candor.
Usable Insight: "The best defense against game-playing is to play the game well." OK but only so long as, when doing so, others are not deceived...or their trust betrayed.

#31 Behavior: Holding It All In
Comment: This is a first cousin of #19. Too often, I am reluctant to express either positive or negative emotions in an effort to seem under control in charge, and (yes) vulnerable. When described as a "tough read," I accept that as a compliment.
Usable Insight: "Having the horror heard helps to heal the heart." That's certainly alliterative but, in my opinion, ignores the perils of increasing compression that exacerbates pressures that are already building up.

Goulston and Goldberg offer an abundance of sound advice. It remains for each reader to determine which of the self-defeating behaviors are most relevant to her or him, then make whatever behavior adjustments may be necessary. The authors suggest that the book be read straight through. I chose to take a different approach. Either way is fine. It is imperative to read "10 Things You Can Learn from Each" and then the Introduction: "How to Beat Self-Defeat" first. The extent to which a reader is receptive to improvement of mindset and behavior will determine whether reading this book is a journey of meaningful self-discovery or an extended exercise in self-delusion. Reader's choice.

Each concept is introduced or enriched with everyday applications to show students chemistry in action in the world around them.
