About the Author

Thomas C. Murray serves as the state and district digital learning director for the Alliance for Excellent Education located in Washington, DC. He has testified before the United States Congress and works alongside that body, the US Department of Education and state departments of education, corpo�rations, and school districts throughout the country to implement digital learning while leading Future Ready, Project 24, and Digital Learning Day. Murray’s experiences in K–12 digital leadership, which include implementing a 1:1 program, BYOD, blended learning, and a K–12 cyber school where he served as the director of technology and cyber education for the Quakertown Community School District in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, have been recognized nationally.

A former school principal, Murray is passionate about proper digital learning implementation and personalized professional learning. Dr. Jeffrey Zoul is a lifelong teacher, learner, and leader, currently serving as Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning with Deerfield Public Schools District 109 in Deerfield, Illinois. Prior to working in this capacity, Jeff served as a district administrator in Rock Island, Illinois, and a school improvement specialist with Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), the nation’s largest and oldest non-profit school improvement network. Jeff also served as a principal with Forsyth County Schools in Cumming, Georgia, and with North Shore School District 112 in Highland Park, Illinois.

Before serving as an administrator, Dr. Zoul was a classroom teacher for 18 years in the State of Georgia, teaching elementary school, middle school, and high school English.

Dr. Zoul is also the author of several books, including Improving Your School One Week at a Time: Building the Foundation for Professional Teaching and Learning and The 4 CORE Factors for School Success, co-authored with Dr. Todd Whitaker. A Quick Read, Must Have for All Educators!

As teachers, we are always modeling being a life-long learner for our students. We push ourselves to take risks and learn new strategies so that we can better serve the students we care for each day. However, sometimes it's not always feasible to take time off for a workshop or connect in person. That is why I appreciate books like this so much. Murray and Zoul have collected a variety of practical resources each teacher can adopt and expand his or her professional practice.

I don't often dog-ear pages in books, but I found that I couldn't help myself while reading Leading Professional Learning. Middle East Travels 1903

The author traveled through the Middle East in the 1890s-1900 era. Table of Contents: Introduction; To Palmyra; To Homs Hama; To Aleppo; To the Taurus; To Zeitun City; To Albistan; To Derendeh; To Hekim Khan; To Malatia Diarbekr; To Dara Dara; To Hajerlo; To Jezireh Eastern Kudistan; To Akra; To Mosul and the Tigris; To Kerkuk; To Suleiman; To Shernakh; To the End; Table of routes; Appendix; Index; 294-350?pages depending upon edition.

A really boring book! The author discusses his travels throughout the Middle East, but his observations are usually about the petty squabbles that he had with many village's poor "hotel" services, continuous complaints about his means of travel (whether by train or by horse), he had utter disdain for almost all of the common-folk that he meets, and just doesn't provide much if any depth about the political incidents that he encounters. Some of his observations:
* "The rest of the Christians of Syria, living in villages, are generally a poor race of people, resembling degraded Fellaheen, but of worse morals and physique; indeed they are not worth a description, and are interesting only to archaeologist in ritual and early Christian sectarian controversy>" (p. 30)
* "The Turk is not, truth to tell, very brilliant as a rule, though very apt in assuming Western cultivation....There are few Turks who would not lay down their lives for their country, there are fewer who would save it from internal decay...." (p. 65)
* "It is also a fact that the Armenians have an extra-ordinary habit of running into danger without possessing the courage to face it....I have good reason to know that these wretches actually schemed to murder American missionaries, hoping America would declare war on the supposition that the Turks were the criminals." (p. 78)

The only redeeming value to this book is the author's maps that denote the locations of hundreds of little-known communities that he recorded during his travels -- possibly for the benefit of British military-intervention interest. Sadly, otherwise, just a really boring book of little insightful analysis.

Buy a reprinted version from a different publisher

Reprinted by several different publishers, I bought this one because it was the least expensive. This was a mistake, since this print-on-demand book has print so light that it is almost impossible to read. Fortunately, I know someone who owns the very expensive original edition of 1901 and I read that instead. The photos in this reprint are barely visible. Moreover, it lacks a large fould-out map at the beginning of the work. If interested in this book, you could only do better by buying another publisher's version. A fascinating personal account by an unpleasant person scouting the area for the British Foreign Office for possible colonization. A first edition costs $600.

Yes! Someone finally wrote this book!

Finally... I have been waiting for this book to be written. This is an incredible guide to becoming an entrepreneur in a practical, realistic way. I think this speaks to American dream of having your cake and eating it too. Whether you are a carpenter or a Wall Street executive, this book is for you, because it teaches you to explore your interest while not having to sacrifice the security of knowing you have a paycheck coming every week. This is an exceedingly well written self help guide for everyone. Even a full time entrepreneur enjoys side projects. I highly recommend that you get this fast read and enter the growing class of 10% Entrepreneurs.

A great read for anyone wanting to break into startups or explore their passions on the side of their day job.

The 10% Entrepreneur reads clear, is entertaining ,and is packed full of insightful commentary on entrepreneurship, including getting a bird's eye view into startups from the role of an advisor, angel, or member of the team.

I believe this book gives people who are looking for a way to break into startups a conservative, standardized approach to learning about opportunities, evaluating them, and getting involved in the ones that fit with what you're looking for. Ultimately, the individual has to make that decision, but the book puts out a framework that is easy to follow and anecdotes that help paint a picture of common situations we might find ourselves in.

I really enjoyed the author's writing style and industry expertise. It comes through in every page. For anyone who is interested in applying their talents to other ventures in their off-time, I would highly recommend this book as an introduction to getting started on that path. Now that I've taken in the lessons and experiences of the author, I feel much more confident to start approaching companies and pursuing the right opportunity in my off-time.

10% Entrepreneur provides the motivation, roadmap, confidence, and kickstart that so many of us W-2 executives need to take more control of our lives. I’ve been a successful big law lawyer, public company CEO and brand building executive, yet found myself wondering all too often why my career still seems beholden to others. While I’ve always been a skilled networker, I now realize I missed many opportunities to leverage my network into greater fulfillment and security. Should be called "learning PHP 7.0 without learning PHP 7.0 or anything useful"

Ive worked in PHP 4.x & 5.x family of programs and I find this book useless for just about everyone. If you want to code PHP 7 or want to get PHP 7 to work with your existing MySQL databases get another book. If you want instructions on to use open source programs to make programs that run on PHP 7.0 your in luck. best part is all the programs are set up on your local computer so any newbie still will not be able to use a remote server for their programs or even hints on how to set it up or even were to go for help. Chapter 3 is about the only chapter useful to a serous learner and other newbie books usually have the whole book devoted to exploring in detail what is jammed into one chapter.
Now to find another book on interfacing PHP 7.0 to MySQL now that I wasted $50 on this one.

You should have at least some fundamental programming experience to understand the concept the Author trying to convey. It is high level, yet very direct to the point with concise examples. I feel understand a lot of more what underneath MVC pattern, popular frameworks such as Laravel, and Testing. Definitely recommended to read for those who want to understand a concept, not cookbook style.

The book is very interesting, well written and with lots of sample code, which helps a lot to understand the different concepts that are explained across the book.

I found specially interesting the Testing section and the MVC framework implementation sample.

Hands on and easy to read book, definitely recommended!
