My 8 year old had to read this series for school. Informative and great illustrations, the writing in old time talk was a little hard for him to get into at first.

Spatial Behavior: A Geographic Perspective, by Reginald G. Golledge PhD, Robert J. Stimson PhD

How do human beings negotiate the spaces in which they live, work, and play? How are firms and institutions, and their spatial behaviors, being affected by processes of economic and societal change? What decisions do they make about their natural and built environment, and how are these decisions acted out? Updating and expanding concepts of decision making and choice behavior on different geographic scales, this major revision of the authors' acclaimed Analytical Behavioral Geography presents theoretical foundations, extensive case studies, and empirical evidence of human behavior in a comprehensive range of physical, social, and economic settings. Generously illustrated with maps, diagrams, and tables, the volume also covers issues of gender, discusses traditionally excluded groups such as the physically and mentally challenged, and addresses the pressing needs of our growing elderly population.

Review
"I used the text in an introductory social geography class. I just got the student evaluations and they are the highest I have had for the course. A lot of credit has to go to the book. Overall satisfaction with the text was high. The price is also right. In sum, it is a good book, well received, and I will use it again next semester." --Bill Dakan, University of Louisville

"Spatial Behavior is a valuable and useful source book and a 'must' for active researchers, teachers, practitioners, and policy makers. This thick volume combines a very comprehensive review of past scholarship with important new research on a host of theoretical, methodological, and applied topics, from perception, to consumer behavior, to gendering and the elderly. Especially helpful is the attention given to policy perspectives and to computer applications. Remarkably, the book is also eminently readable. Golledge and Stimson have made an enduring contribution." --Julian Wolpert, Ph.D., Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University

"From globalization to cognitive maps, Spatial Behavior presents a comprehensive survey of the field. Golledge and Stimson begin the book by demanding that students think reflexively about how we create knowledge, and toward the end, in an innovative chapter on geography and 'the other,' they invite students to think critically about power relationships in our society. Thorough and up-to-date." --Susan Hanson, Ph.D., Clark University

"The well-designed volume is amply illustrated with close to 70 tables and 150 figures... Spatial Behavior offers real depth and breadth of content. A particular strength is the completeness of presentation of the themes addressed in each chapter....The authors integrate concepts, research design and data collection, methodology, results, and interpretations of empirical studies in their treatment of each theme. This approach gives readers--students and scholars--a valuable model of inquiry. Very reasonably priced, this book is a worthwhile text for anyone interested in human geography." --E. Cromley, Environment and Planning A

"The text is one I would recommend strongly to all those interested in spatial behavior from both a quantitative and nonquantitative background....Its breadth is quite remarkable....I would recommend its use to anyone interested in human geography and it would make a wonderful text from which to teach a course on behavioral geography at any level. At approximately 5 cents a page (paperback), this is a real bargain!"--Journal of Regional Science (Journal of Regional Science 1996-12-29)

"A clear and accessible writing style, accompanied by a powerful look at the contributions geographers can make to real-world situations. In addition, the book provides a useful reminder to all those who thought that behavioural approaches were dead, that they have evolved and still have a central role in geographic inquiry."--Environment and Planning (Environment and Planning 1996-12-29)

Don't bother. Online travel forums would be a much better choice.
By FuegoVerde
I've been waiting for months for this book in preparation for my second trip to Myanmar (scheduled for later this year), but only minutes after I received and opened it I saw it was a huge letdown. For my first trip in October 2013 I bought the Lonely Planet 2011 version, which was basically the only guidebook available and which was already hopelessly out of date by then; I realize a newer version has been published but since I always prefer RG to LP guides, I chose RG this time. Unfortunately, it turns out to be not perceptibly more updated than the 2011 LP, and offers precious little more information (with Tanintharyi Region, which has recently and slowly been opened up, being the one notable exception), insight, or new listings. In fact, entire areas that were at least tentatively covered by the 2011 LP and that have since become accessible for foreign travelers (Chin State, for example) are not even mentioned in this book. So it's money wasted as far as I'm concerned, and I will have to stick to the online forums and a couple of useful websites I've found after all.

One Suggestion
By James P Melican
I have used the newly-issued guidebook extensively in arranging a trip to Myanmar that I will be making in Dec. 2015. My only criticism, which I hope is constructive, is that the guidebook does not mention any of the travel agencies that have offices in Myanmar (or in Bangkok), but is rather confined to U.K. and other overseas agencies. I know from repeated experience that it is typically possible to save 25 percent or more by booking directly with a firm that is located in or very close to the country one is visiting

Make no mistake: Our founding fathers were more bandanas-and-muscles than powdered-wigs-and-tea.

As a prisoner of war, Andrew Jackson walked several miles barefoot across state lines while suffering from smallpox and a serious head wound received when he refused to polish the boots of the soldiers who had taken him captive. He was thirteen years old. A few decades later, he became the first popularly elected president and served the nation, pausing briefly only to beat a would-be assassin with a cane to within an inch of his life. Theodore Roosevelt had asthma, was blind in one eye, survived multiple gunshot wounds, had only one regret (that there were no wars to fight under his presidency), and was the first U.S. president to win the Medal of Honor, which he did after he died. Faced with the choice, George Washington actually preferred the sound of bullets whizzing by his head in battle over the sound of silence.

And now these men—these hallowed leaders of the free world—want to kick your ass.

Plenty of historians can tell you which president had the most effective economic strategies, and which president helped shape our current political parties, but can any of them tell you what to do if you encounter Chester A. Arthur in a bare-knuckled boxing fight? This book will teach you how to be better, stronger, faster, and more deadly than the most powerful (and craziest) men in history. You’re welcome.

Should be required reading in high school/college history courses
By Bad Medicine
I finished reading this book last night, and, I would recommend it to anyone. Daniel O'Brien is one of the senior editors at Cracked.com, and you don't get and keep that position without being both a) funny as hell, b) a really great writer, and c) great at doing your research and fact-checking.
I read this a lot on a series of round-trip flights to St. Louis, and it kept eliciting spontaneous chortles and smirks that got me a few wary looks from passengers who likely weren't nearly as comfortable flying in a little twin prop plane as I was. Chapters are 6-8 pages long, which means it's easy to find a stopping point (though I found the book hard to put down), and, Winston Rowntree has a technically brilliant art style married with a sense of humor that's a match made in heaven for the text - he absolutely deserves that front cover mention for his illustrations, and I wish to subscribe to his newsletter (if he has one).

The premise of the book - teaching you how to win, or at least survive, in a fight with our former presidents (except Teddy... you're going to lose, because he's -Teddy Roosevelt-) - is hilariously absurd. O'Brien has done a great deal of biographical and historical research on our nation's past leaders to put together a battle plan for his readers. I smiled, I chuckled, I laughed out loud, and I learned more about some of the most fascinating (and certifiably crazy) men in US history than I did in actual US history courses from kindergarten all the way through receiving my bachelor's degree.

Basically a 200 page DOB top Cracked article.
By Amazon Customer
Good book, got exactly what I expected. A humorous take on the history of all the currently deceased US Presidents. 3-6 pages entries on every one. learned a few interesting tidbits interspersed with DOB's well honed style of self deprecating, nerdy humor. If you're interested in US history or presidents, there's a lot in this book. I just wish he'd expanded on some of the more noteworthy presidents. Presidents with crazy feats or antics the likes of Teddy Roosevelt, or Andrew Jackson, or LBJ with crazy stories and trivia feel cramped in only 5 pages, and it seems like Daniel cut back on them to fit the format.

Overall, still a good short read that holds a lot of laughs and made me feel like I was learning something.

How to fight Daniel O'Brien
By Steven
When trying to fight Daniel O'Brien, I can only implore you to reconsider. This is not a fight any sane person would attempt. However, if you feel like you must engage him, be warned that your only asset will be the element of surprise. Do not let him know that you plan to fight him. If he so much as suspects your intentions, you are screwed. O'brien will size you up, pinpoint all of your weaknesses, and exploit them without remorse. He will have read everything ever written about you and everything you have ever written (including that livejournal you started in middle school and thought you deleted). He will know you better then you know yourself. And make sure your fight does not occur in front of a crowd. His biggest asset is his humor, and that crowd will be laughing at your biggest insecurities. You will be begging for someone, anyone, to end your embarrassment. You may even start uncontrollably laughing with the crowd, thus leaving yourself defenseless. Also, do not be an authority figure, or try and tell Dan what he can and cannot do. His book makes it very clear, this is the quickest way to antagonize him. And be warned. Where most people would bring a knife or a gun to a fight, Daniel will bring Theodore Roosevelt. And if this book has made one thing clear to me, it is that the combination of Theodore Roosevelt and fight has only one outcome. So I implore you, you should really just reconsider. And get Dan's book. It's pretty funny, especially if you like him on Cracked.com.
