The Girl who Couldn't Come, by Joey Comeau

This is a book of dirty stories. It is a book where sex is fun and good and people are kind to each other. Also there are ghosts and there is math and there are obsessive compulsive disorders.

These stories are weird and fun and often bewildering, like sex itself.

Maybe you will like it!

Good, Nerdy Fun
By Tara
I bought this based on the strength of Joey's comic, A Softer World. This book exceeded any expectations I had. It's a collection of short stories about normal people with not quite normal quirks rangeing from needing Johny Cash music to come to ghost sex. I was pleasantly surprised to find stories from male and female POV as well as a full spectrum of sexualities without bias. It was also unabashed about the actual sex. I don't recall any flower-like vaginas or wood jokes. Though I must admit that I personally found most of the stories slightly to disturbing to be arousing. Um, so in summary: super enjoyable, funny, and strange stories about sex or wanting to have sex.

Joey Comeau Broke My Heart
By Jake Eugene VanGundy
Look, this book is great. Joey is one of the greatest writers of our generation. But that's not what I want to talk to you about. I want to warn you about Joey. I want to warn you about falling in love.
I met Joey in a Toronto bar a few years ago. Being a big fan of Joey's writing and being drunk enough to have a little confidence I approached him. I didn't believe in love before that, but whiskey on my tongue and Joey's fingers gently brushing my wrist taught me.
After the fifth shot of whiskey and my second beer everything turned to a blur of laughter and dancing and Joey's skin against mine. I woke the next morning in my bed alone. Joey was gone, leaving only a used condom in the trash and a copy of this book on my kitchen table. In the front cover he wrote "Last night was fun, but Ryan North is the only man I will ever love."
Let this story be a warning to you. Enjoy Joey's writing. Enjoy his flesh if you get the chance. But never ever let yourself fall in love with the man. He will leave you with nothing but a hole in your heart and a misguided hatred for Ryan North.

Not exactly porn, but definitely pornographic
By Amanda B. Hamilton
I love Joey Comeau's writing, so I bought this book within a week of its publication, then I read the whole thing in about four hours and I loved it through and through.

The thing about Joey Comeau's writing, especially when it comes to sex, is that he does not shy away from depicting things realistically. There were no extensive descriptions of glistening sweat clinging to thighs or bosoms spilling out over the tops of corsets. Joey's pornography shows sex for what it really is: strange, fun, sometimes disappointing, often surprising, always interesting.

I would not say all of these pieces are specifically erotic, as the sex bits are usually detracted or interrupted by some strange or disturbing thing (the main character's OCD or the fact that one of the characters is a ghost, for example). Also, it's not traditional pornography because, for the most part, Joey definitely focuses on either the characters or the plot much more than the actual sex itself (a plus in my book).

I want to add, though, for those who aren't familiar with Joey's writing, some of the stories contain violence and are sometimes fairly disturbing (Christmas Tree Pornography and The Steps spring to mind), but most are good-natured and they are all, of course, very well-written (my favorite line of the book? "She was a mirror in the sun"), and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.
